I successfully lost 5 stone on the lighter life diet last spring and have just spent the last 8 months putting back 2 stone. This has now placed me in the ‘apple shaped’ category and according the NHS Choices website, at risk from heart problems and type II diabetes… lovely!

CLICK HERE FOR THE CAMBRIDGE DIET CHEAT SHEET

So being a sensible kind of chap with three young children to consider I have thrown myself once again into serious dieting. I prefer the abstinence diets like Lighter Life where you go through hell in the first few days then it gets easier as your body (and stomach) get used to the lack of food. The last time, the weight just fell off me and I felt great but it was really mentally tough. My reasoning is’ if you have to go without you may as well get it over with quicker’ ; although losing five stone in just eight weeks left me feeling pretty damn good.

My only real complaint about Lighter Life was that you had to go to group counselling for a couple of hours each week where you weighed yourself officially and discussed with help from the councillor, how to change your relationship with food… the reasoning behind this is pretty sound but it just wasn’t for me. The councillor was annoying and you could tell that she was only in it for the money and for that reason the weekly ‘fat club’ got right up my nose.

So this time I have switched to the Cambridge Diet. It is virtually identical to Lighter Life and so far the food packs taste exactly the same. The main differences though are firstly the price – £10 a week cheaper with Cambridge!! Over eight weeks that really adds up. And secondly there is no weekly fat club! Fantastic.

There is one to one counselling and weighing available but if you’re an experienced dieter (like moi) you can pay for a chunk of weeks up front, take your food packs and get on with dieting.

So far so good (it’s 11pm on day one as I type this and I could eat our guinea pig at the moment!) but I know it gets easier. To help me along with the diet I have found a LOAD OF NICE CHEATS so click HERE and enjoy

Wish me luck
