Yet, these kind of places always seem to be packed and so every now and then I fall into the trap of believing some acquaintance or other when they tell me that they had a lovely meal there and the ‘yorky puds’ were to die for.

So I go… and it is busy… and I look at the food and it looks ok.

Then when I’m sat down tucking in, it dawns on me very quickly that I have fell for it once more and that I have ‘followed the crowd’ into being suckered into to buying a plate full of tasteless, overcooked slop for £6.95.

So this Sunday it was an absolute pleasure to report that I have found a most excellent pub that does what I can only describe as the best Sunday roast in Chesterfield.

It is The Red Lion at Stone Edge 

The main meal cost £11.95 and was worth every penny. The beef (and I mean beef) was cooked to perfection with a hint of pink, the Yorkshire pud’s were crisp and delicious, the Roast potatoes were just fantastic , the vegetables were perfectly cooked and tasted freshly prepared and the gravy was to die for.

This meal was cooked by a real chef, someone with a passion for how food should taste and look and it showed.  The service was swift and pleasant and the atmosphere (even with my brood) was great.

We all loved it and I can highly recommend it. Plus they served us a little pot of maltesers with the latte at the end! What a nice touch.
